University of Love

Connie was in her first year of university having a great old time. She met a girl with whom she went to school, and they agreed to meet in the union one night. The old-school chum brought some of the people on her course with her and one of those other first years was Scott.  The rest, as they say, is history.

Sunset Issues

In Nov 2022 Connie and Scott went to Thailand and Scott had it all planned out, he was going to propose to Connie on a beautiful beach right next to their Air BnB with a stunning sunset as the backdrop. There was only one slight snag to this plan. Where they were there weren’t really any stunning sunsets to speak of.

With two days of the holiday left, Scott decided sunsets be damned he was going to propose anyway. As they returned to their accommodation across the beach that evening Scott suggested a dip in the sea. Connie had an ear infection so decided to watch Scott swim, presumably while he plucked up the courage to ask the question. Eventually, he came out of the water, got down on one knee and proposed to a stunned Connie.

Then they saw a giant snail bigger than your hand on the way back. So all in all a very eventful day!

Not An ABBA Tribute Act

Having lived in Larbert for over 20 years, I knew the couple’s wedding venue well, Dobbie Hall. Built in 1901 and designed in baroque style it was now mainly used for tribute acts and craft fairs. I’d never seen it used as a wedding venue before, but actually it was spectacular. All the pillars were decorated with photos of the couple during various stages of their relationship. Connie had made not one, not two but three wedding cakes to cater for all their guests dietary requirements. The absolute star of the show however was all the homemade bunting that was festooned across the hall. Connie and Scott had asked their friends and family to make it; it was a real celebration of love.

Here Comes The Bride

Connie looked beautiful as she walked down the aisle flanked by her parents. As soon as she saw Scott she started to get emotional and he couldn’t take his eyes off her.

The wedding service, like the couple, conducted by Mark Reilly was laidback, funny and heartfelt.

Bad Taste At A Wedding?

As a twist on the quaich tradition, Connie and Scott chose to drink whisky, which they both hate to think about bad times. Swiftly followed by homemade tablet, which they both love to show they can be overcome. As a photographer I have to say capturing their expressions during this part of the ceremony was priceless.

If In Doubt, Look Up!

The Masonic Lodge next door to Dobbie Hall had done their garden especially for my couple to get some photos in and the garden did look lovely. However, with flats and shops and car parks all around me I needed to get a bit creative to produce a ‘wow’ image for my wedding couple. I looked up at the sky and it was beautiful blue with white fluffy clouds. I decided that would be perfect for the backdrop, even if it meant lying on my back in the still wet grass to capture it. I’m in love with the final result.

Soon it was time to get my couple back inside for the speeches, but not before I asked Scott if he could dip Connie in front of the big old wooden doors of the Hall. He nailed it of course!

When Your Mum Is A Teacher

I always love getting to capture speeches at weddings. I love the reactions on the couples faces and the guests. Connie’s Dad made her cry happy tears and then her mum took over…what followed was the funniest, audience participation wedding speech I have ever heard. Ultimately resulting in a large banner that spelled out…

Yes you’ve guessed it, LOVE.

Then with the gorgeous smell off the hog roast from the Spitting Pig it was time for me to take my leave and let this lovely lot enjoy their meal and party.

Congratulations again Mr and Mrs Lawie xXx
