Headshot Session Prep: Look Professional, Feel Confident, and Shine
Whether you’re updating your LinkedIn profile, refreshing your business website, or just want a new profile photo that actually looks like you, a professional headshot makes all the difference.
Here’s everything you need to know to feel relaxed, confident, and completely ready for your headshot session at JB Moments Photography.
What Should I Wear?
Your outfit sets the tone for your image, so think about what you want your headshot to say.
Some quick tips:
Solid colours work best—avoid busy patterns or logos.
Blues, greys, and jewel tones photograph beautifully and flatter most skin tones.
Layers add interest—a jacket, cardigan, or scarf can elevate a simple look.
Keep jewellery minimal and classic—you want the focus to stay on you.
If you’re not sure, feel free to bring a couple of options and I can help you choose.

Hair, Make Up and Grooming
This is your time to shine, so a little polish goes a long way:
Apply makeup slightly heavier than usual, especially around the eyes and lips. Matte finishes work better than shiny.
Bring powder or blotting sheets if you tend to get shiny.
Hair should be clean and styled as you’d normally wear it to a meeting or event.
Men should consider a fresh trim or shave, or tidy up any facial hair a day or two before.
And don’t worry—I’ll take care of the lighting and angles to flatter your best features.
How to Pose (Without Feeling Awkward)
Most people feel nervous before a headshot session—totally normal! I’ll guide you through easy, natural poses and expressions that reflect your personality and brand.
I might ask you to lean forward slightly, drop your shoulders, or give me a small smirk—don’t overthink it. My job is to help you feel relaxed and look your best.
Where Will We Shoot?
Headshots can be taken:
In my studio for a clean, classic backdrop
On-location, such as your office or workspace
Or outdoors, for a more relaxed and approachable look
We’ll discuss the vibe you want and find a setting that works for you.

How Long Will It Take?
Most sessions last 15–30 minutes, with time built in for chatting, outfit changes, and getting comfortable in front of the camera. You’ll have access to a private online gallery to choose your final images.
Final Thought
Your headshot is often your first impression—it should feel like the best version of you. Whether you’re a business owner, creative, or professional climbing the ladder, a great headshot builds connection, confidence, and credibility. Let’s make sure yours does exactly that.
