Wedding Supplier
Time for another interview with a fabulous local business. This time it is with Kirsty Lloyd from Kirsty Lloyd Freelance Make-up Artist. I am always in total awe of people who can apply makeup to enhance someone’s natural beauty (take a look at Kirsty’s before and after photos attached). When I try to apply makeup it looks like I’ve had a fight with a box of crayons!!
Tell me Kirsty, what are the most popular wedding trends you are seeing at the moment and into 2018?
There seem to be many trends in makeup today and a lot of the mainstream is transitioning into the bridal market. I have noticed the ‘natural’ look is a lot heavier now and brides are more experimental with colour, choosing various eyeliners, shadows, and bright lips.
So if someone books you, what can they expect?
I always suggest a trial so you can get an idea of what a bride requires on her wedding day, this takes between 1-1.5 hours. I like to listen closely to what their expectations are and create a look that is suitable. Having a calming, patient manner and working quickly but efficiently goes a long way.
Absolutely, and tell me, how can a bride decide if a supplier is a right fit for their wedding?
With regards to makeup, I would look at their work to see if the style is what you require. Then email or speak on the phone if you have any questions and organise a trial, this will give you an indication if they are comfortable with the person and whether they provide the service you are looking for. Always go with your gut instinct.
Sage advice. If you could offer one piece of advice to couples (or brides) what would it be?
Makeup-wise, less is more, remember you want your photos to be timeless. So enough to enhance but not to camouflage. You do not want to look back in years to come and regret your choices.
Thank you so much, Kirsty. Finally what other services do you provide as well as weddings?
I teach various masterclasses on how to apply makeup and the best techniques to achieve this. There is so much interest in cosmetics now, so it is nice to pass on my knowledge and tips that I’ve picked up over the years.
Top insight from Kirsty there, I especially liked ‘enhance not camouflage’.
