Old Course Hotel, St Andrews – Louise and Barrie’s Wedding
“In the end, we’ll all become stories.” – Margaret Atwood
California Dreaming
Louise and Barrie have known each other for years since 2001 to be exact. Louise was going out with one of Barrie’s friends so they hung out in the same circles. A few years after Louise’s relationship was over, Barrie took a more romantic interest in Louise. They kept in touch and even went on a few dates but it clearly wasn’t the right time and it fizzled out. They both dated other people and still kept in touch and then in 2015 the stars were finally aligned and they got together for good.
In 2019 Barrie decided he was going to propose to Louise. He picked out a ring and hid it carefully in his luggage as they headed off on holiday to California. Despite being an amazing holiday Barrie never quite found the right moment to pop the question. The ring remained hidden in Barrie’s luggage unbeknown to Louise. Then once back home on a walk in Callendar Park, the moment was right and Barrie proposed. When it’s right, it’s right ๐
I first met Louise and Barrie when they trusted me to capture images of the little girl Erin. I must have done something right because they then asked if I would capture their wedding ๐
Small But Oh So Stylish
My couple wanted an intimate wedding and to celebrate with their daughter, their parents, and Louise’s brother. They also wanted it in St. Andrews as it was a town special to both of them. They decided on the luxurious Old Course Hotel. Now you may be thinking, ‘but that’s a huge resort, a small party will be lost in there?’, well read on my friend ๐
Talking of small, how adorable is Erin’s flower girl dress, hanging up next to Louise’s stunning wedding dress from Bella Bridal Boutique?
Meet Me In The Library
The hotel has a room called the library and it was the perfect size and decor for the wedding. I thought it was even more perfect as Louise works for a well-known bookstore.
Barrie’s buttonhole, as well as Louise’s bouquet, were a lovely mix of fresh and dried flowers from Willow and Wisteria.
As you can see Miss Erin wanted to be involved in her parent’s ceremony.
Ceremony
My couple opted for a humanist ceremony conducted by Craig Flowers. They chose a quaich ceremony to celebrate the two families joining together. Craig got all the parents up to participate.
They also choose to ‘tie the knot’ with a handfasting ceremony.
Keeping It In The Family
Before we went outside for some Bride and Groom portraits I decided to do the group photos in the library as it was such a lovely setting.
That’s a good-looking set of families right there.
The Bridge
Despite not being avid golfers, Louise and Barry wanted photos at the iconic bridge on the Old Course. And I could see why as it’s stunning and instantly recognisable. Once I managed to kick all the American tourists, who were taking selfies, off the bridge that is!
Have I mentioned recently how much I fricken love black and white images?
Under The Veil
I nearly squealed with joy when I saw that Louise was rocking a long veil. I love, love, love a long veil for many reasons. Like the way the wind catches them in the image above.
But mainly so I can get up close and personal under the veil with my couple (like a weird photographer gooseberry).
Might make my couple feel a little bit creeped out, but the results are totally worth it.
Before we went inside to take some images with the cake we walked over to the Ladies Clubhouse for some images as well. I really liked how they turned out.
Sugar Rush
A beautiful private dining room with views across to the sea had been set up for the wedding breakfast so we snuck upstairs to get some images with the cake before I left.
The cake looked delicious from The Wee Happy Cakery.
I went back to the library to say goodbye to the guests who had been happily sipping champagne whilst we wandered around the golf course. Once we got there Miss Erin had also had a few snacks and was on top form so I couldn’t resist getting some images of her playing with mum’s dress and bouquet.
The bouquet was almost as big as her!
Then it really was time to go home and leave these two fabulous families to celebrate the most happy of unions.
Congratulations again Mr and Mrs Elgie xXx
