How to Prepare for a Pet Photography Session (Without Losing Your Mind)
Thinking of booking a photo shoot for your pet? Amazing — you’re in the right place.
Whether you’ve got a camera-loving golden retriever or a curious cat who does exactly what they want (of course they do), this guide will help you feel totally ready — and excited — for your shoot with JB Moments Photography.
First Things First: You Know Them Best
Before the shoot, it’s really helpful if you tell me a bit about your pet:
Do they get overexcited around strangers?
Do they pee when they’re happy (no judgement!)?
Are they a bit shy, or the ultimate show-off?
Do they have any quirks or sensitivities?
The more I know, the better I can tailor the session to help them feel comfortable and have fun.
What to Bring
📦 Treats – Their favourite ones! Keep them tucked away until we need their full attention.
🧸 Toys – Balls, squeakers, or whatever makes their tail wag.
💧 Water – Especially if we’re outdoors. Bring some for you too — treats and tail wags can be tiring!
🦴 Any accessories they’re used to wearing – Collars, harnesses, or cute outfits (if they love them — don’t try anything new for the first time at a shoot!).
If You're in the Photos Too...
Planning to be in some of the shots? Brilliant — I love capturing the bond between people and their pets.
Here are some wardrobe tips:
Stick to neutrals or dark colours — they won’t distract from your pet.
Avoid busy patterns and big logos.
Choose clothes you can move in — we might get a little playful!
What If They Don’t Behave?
Good news: they don’t have to.
Some pets pose like supermodels. Others run in circles, ignore me completely, or just want to sniff everything. And honestly? That’s fine.
Here’s what we’ll do:
Go with the flow
Work at their pace
Take breaks if we need to
Capture the real, loveable chaos that makes them them
Please don’t stress. I’ve photographed enough zoomies, wiggles and wriggly tails to know we’ll get something beautiful.
Where We’ll Shoot
Your session can be in my studio in Auchterarder or on location — a favourite walk, your garden, or a quiet local park. Wherever your pet feels most relaxed and happy.
I’ll help you pick the perfect spot.
After the Shoot
You’ll receive a gorgeous gallery of edited images to download, print and share — perfect for wall art, gifts, or just giving your pet the spotlight they deserve!
