A Wedding on my Doorstep
In my 7-plus years as a wedding photographer, I have always had to travel by car to the venue my couple have chosen to get married in. But that all changed 4 weddings ago when I got to walk to the venue. Less than 5 minutes from my front doorstep in Auchterarder!
A Relationship in Beta
Forgive my rather poor software joke! My couple met at the software company in London they worked at around 10 years ago. After around 5 years as friends their relationship ‘developed’ (sorry, not sorry)!
There was no grand romantic gesture for this pared-back, straightforward couple. Whilst visiting his parents at his dad’s new parish posting in Auchterarder, they loved the location and the church. That coupled with the fact that his dad would be retiring soon, my couple jointly decided to get married in a couple of months!
They planned a simple ceremony in front of close family with a BBQ afterwards in the garden of the Rectory.
Being tech-savvy, they didn’t want any pictures of their faces on my website or social media but were happy for me to use other pictures from the day. I also respect my client’s wishes if they prefer to stay anonymous.
St Kessog's Church
This beautiful church is up a narrow wynd, just off Auchterarder High Street. Originally a private chapel as part of a grand estate it was gifted to the wider community.
This probably explains the stunning architecture and ornate interior of the church.
Father Marries Son
First time I have written that as a title! It was truly a family affair. The groom’s dad officiated the wedding as his mum proudly watched on along with the bride’s parents and immediate family.
The groom’s mum and dad had organised a piper to pipe the bride into church and the guests and this was quite an emotional surprise for the bride (in a good way)!
Laidback Formals
After the short, but very personal service and the group photos, I had some time with the chilled-out couple for some images of them.
I promised not to show their faces but I couldn’t resist sharing one of their feet as the bride’s wedding shoes were white Birkenstocks. A girl after my own heart. Comfort before heels!
I also wanted to share this one of them walking away from me.
At the back of the church, this was a picturesque spot to capture some lovely images for the couple. Before they headed back to their family to pop the champagne corks and enjoy the rest of their laid-back wedding day celebrations.
I normally end my wedding blogs with, ‘as I got in the car to leave’…but of course this time I just wandered back down Auchterarder’s gorgeous High Street. Making an obligatory pit stop at the Auchter Larder Deli for some cannoli for Mr JB and I to enjoy.
