Larbert Woods – The Kerr Family

Family Photography

How lucky am I? A few weeks after my last epic location shoot at Larbert Woods I got to go back. This time for a family photo shoot that was gifted to mum for Mother’s Day using one of my lovely vouchers (what an ace gift 😉 ).

Meet the Kerr Family

Mum, Dad, Rory and his little brother Archie. Sitting on my favourite tree in the whole wood. It is just perfect for p

“Some nice family shots”

Was what mum wanted. She didn’t fancy a studio shoot as the last time they had tried when they just had Rory it wasn’t much fun. She thought that if the boys got to run around and play they wouldn’t get bored so easily and the result would be nice natural photos. I suggested the location as what boy, girl (or middle-aged photographer) can resist rustly leaves and sticks?

Family Photographer near Falkirk - JB Moments Photography

Mum knows best – as usual! Rory and Archie had a great time!

Stick it to ’em

I’m not sure who started the stick fighting….probably Dad but it quickly escalated!

Family Photographer near Falkirk - JB Moments Photography

I think that one is just a bit too big! Good teamwork though guys!

Leaf it out!

Did you see what I did there?! I took the family to the clearing where there was an abundance of leaves to run in and throw at each other.

Family Photographer near Falkirk - JB Moments Photography

First of all, everyone ganged up on Dad. Then the boys got on their parent’s shoulders and a full-on battle commenced!

Family Photographer near Falkirk - JB Moments Photography

I love capturing these moments as the family forgets that you are there and just get on with the business of having some fun.

And just like that..

the hour whizzed by and it was time to go home. Not before a few last clicks of the camera as we walked back through the woods.

A good time had by all :-).

Studio Session – Baby Hannah

Baby Photography

I have the best clients! I know I say it often but I really do. Back in May, I had baby Kenzie in the studio with her big brother Rhys. Well, her family liked her pictures so much that when her Auntie wanted baby photos they booked me 🙂

It’s a Girl!

Kenzie was the last baby girl I had in the studio. Since then it has been a run of newborn boys. And whilst I love photographing all babies. The parents of baby boys have been reluctant to let me try out some of my cute new outfits on them! (when you see them you’ll understand why!)

To say I was excited to meet six-day new Hannah was an understatement.

Baby girl - JB Moments Photography

Just look at those deliciously squishy cheeks. And those pouty lips are just swoon-worthy!

Sister Act

Hannah bought her big sister Daliah with her. She was only two but I can honestly say hands down the best-behaved two-year-old I’ve ever had in the studio. New baby sessions are my longest sessions at around two hours long and that is a long time for a little person to sit around. I usually recommend one of the parents takes siblings to the park or out on errands if they get restless. But Daliah was happy playing with the studio toys and checking what her baby sister was up to.

When it came to her turn to get pictures with her new baby she was good as gold as well.

Baby girl and sister - JB Moments Photography

With siblings as young as Daliah I usually only do the above pose as having them both lying on the floor means that the baby is safe from falling anywhere.

But Daliah was so still and good at taking direction I asked mum and dad if we could try Daliah holding baby Hannah? I made sure they were just out of shot ready to dive in if needs be. But we needn’t have worried.

Baby girl and sister - JB Moments Photography

Daliah did better than some six-year-olds!!

Unicorns! Unicorns everywhere!

I mentioned earlier my new outfits that are ‘apparently’ not for baby boys 😉 Well one of them is a unicorn outfit and mum and dad were happy to indulge me. SQUEEEEEEE!

Baby girl - JB Moments Photography
Always be yourself unless you can be a unicorn, then always be a unicorn.

Hannah was awake at this point but she was so chilled. I think she liked being a baby unicorn!

A bucket load of cute

Shortly after being a unicorn took its toll on Hannah and she fell fast asleep. So asleep she didn’t even notice me popping her in some props to add some variety to her gallery including a bucket.

Baby girl - JB Moments Photography

Again because it was my first baby girl in AGES I had to break out the flowers.

Family Forever

I like to adapt my favourite silhouette image when there are older siblings and Daliah was happy to go up on dads shoulder for this shot.

Family Photographer - JB Moments Photography

Hannah slept through it like a champ.

All too soon my time with this gorgeous family was up and I had to let them out of the studio! But not before I captured them as family.

Family Photographer - JB Moments Photography

Baby Hannah is very lucky. She has been born into a family that is completely besotted with her. And if I’m honest – I was too!

Studio Sessions – Baby Boys

A Tale of Two Baby Boys

Last week I was lucky enough to have not one but two teeny tiny baby boys in the studio. First up was baby Max on the Monday and then later in the week baby Joey came to visit with his big brother and big sister.

Miracle Max

Max couldn’t wait to meet his mum and dad so he arrived a full month early! He came into the studio at six weeks new (two weeks adjusted).

Baby Boy - JB Moments Photography

He had the most amazing big blue eyes that he kept pinned on me at the beginning of the session. I had to include this image as he looks thoroughly pee’d off with me here!

It’s a Wrap

He loved being swaddled though, and soon fell into a nice deep slumber allowing me to capture all sorts of beautiful images for his doting mum and dad.

Baby boy - JB Moments Photography

We’re a Family

Not only was Max eager to meet his parents, they were very eager to meet him. He was the wonderful result of two long, hard years of IVF. To say they were besotted was an understatement. It was absolutely beautiful to see.

The moment you transition from being in love to being a family.

Fly me to the Moon

I never like to promise I’ll be able to create a composite image as it depends on all sorts of factors on the day. But mum and dad has seen one of my moon composites and really wanted one, especially as Max’s nursery is decorated with a moon and stars theme. I was determined to succeed for them, especially as I had a new moon composite that I was itching to try. I think it worked out pretty darn good 🙂

“On the night you were born, the moon smiled with such wonder, that the stars peeked in to see you, and the night wind whispered, life will never be the same again.”

I’m the Little Brother

Next into the studio was 11 day new baby Joey. His family travelled over an hour to get to my studio after a recommendation from someone who’d had a Christmas Mini session with me. No pressure then!

Joey brought with him his big brother Roman (nearly 4) and big sister Millie (9). Mum and dad really wanted some nice images of all the kids together. Normally I like to wait until the baby is fast asleep when dealing with young sibling like Roman but Joey was having none of it. I don’t think he slept the entire session. I needn’t have worried though as Roman and Millie were two of the best behaved older siblings I’ve ever met. They let me pose them with Joey in a whole variety of different ways. They were so careful with him.

Of course, it also helped that they were both very photogenic 🙂

Just Chillin’

Although Joey wasn’t for sleeping he was quite chilled out. He was just looking about, taking in all that was going on.

Baby Boy - JB Moments Photography

I’d love to know what the little dude is thinking about in this image.

Rolling with it

In every newborn session I try to offer at least one prop set up. I actually found this vintage trolly cart at the Gardening Scotland show and have been dying to use it ever since. I would never normally use with a baby that wasn’t in a deep sleep. But Joey was so chill and I had mum spotting close by that we rolled with it (see what I did there!).

Baby boy - JB Moments Photography

I thoroughly enjoyed my week of baby boys but I’m wondering where all the girls are hiding? Desperate to break out the headbands!

Studio Portrait Session – Hazel, Cameron & Maisie

Child Photography

“A portrait is not made in the camera but on either side of it.” – Edward Steichen

When Emma and Andy brought their three children: Hazel (3); Cameron (21 months) and Maisie (2 months) into the studio I had three initial thoughts.

Child photos by JB Moments Photography

  1. Emma and Andy make beautiful children.
  2. Man, three kids that close together in ages must be hard work!
  3. Emma and Andy deserve a medal for getting all three of them to the studio on time, well behaved, squeaky clean and with three costume changes (as well as looking pretty glam themselves).

A budding portrait photographer in the making

Hazel was immediately drawn to the toy camera in my toy-box and was fascinated by the whole portrait process.

Child photos by JB Moments Photography

She really enjoyed seeing the image on the back of the camera. To keep her engaged and interested I let her take a picture of her brother. So whilst mum and dad held their breath I handed over my expensive camera gear to a three year old…and she nailed it!

Child photos by JB Moments Photography

I mean the posing needs a little work, but I better watch my back! I thought it was important to include this image in the gallery so she could see the picture she created 🙂

All the young dudes

Not only was Cameron getting used to no longer being the baby of the family, having been relegated to middle child following the arrival of Maisie. He is going to have to come to terms with having not one but two sisters to deal with!!

Child photos by JB Moments Photography

He seemed to be taking it all in his stride. Looking super cool in his ripped jeans and fresh white trainers.

Oh baby, baby

Be still my heart, baby Maisie with her big eyes and cute giggles had me wrapped around her little fingers.

Child photos by JB Moments Photography

I just loved her little romper that toned perfectly with her big sisters dress and brothers shirt.

Costume Change

Now the sisters had matching dresses — too cute!

Child photos by JB Moments Photography

Although Maisie made her outfit her own by adding a cheeky headband.

Child photos by JB Moments Photography

Cameron was co-ordinated to perfection. Both he and Hazel found my tickle stick (aka telescopic feather duster) hilarious, especially when daddy was being tickled by mummy!

Put a label on it

These kids had been absolute angels and we were nearly at the end of the session so we were pushing our luck with a third costume change…But…the outfits were so worth it. Mum had organised these amazing sweatshirts and romper in pretty muted colours.

Maisie was being super chill but Hazel and Cameron were so over the session by now. Which is totally understandable for kids at this age. If it wasn’t for the outfits I would have called time on the session but I wanted that shot! So we did what all good parents and photographers do and bribed them with the promise of ice cream and the instant gratification of lollipops plucked fresh from my lollipop tree.

Child photos by JB Moments Photography

It couldn’t have been that traumatic for them because Hazel, bless her, wanted me to go with them for ice cream. Although I think it was probably so she could pick my brain and takeover my photography business!

Golden Wedding Anniversaries & Competition Winners part 2.

Family Photography

Whoah! It has been a busy few weeks at JB Moments Photography. So much so that I am only now catching up on all my blogs (you have been warned!!) 🙂

There’s a model in the family

First up was the second of my birthday competition winners. The lovely Miss Berenice. Her mum had entered the competition to win a session for this beautiful six-year-old as a reward for being such a good big sister to her new baby sister. A very recent addition to the family.

Competition Winner - JB Moments Photography
She’s a natural!

Mum wanted to make sure that Berenice felt like the centre of attention so I made it into a model shoot with costume changes and background changes galore!

Competition Winner - JB Moments Photography

I’m not sure which us was having more fun with all the set changes and props. Berenice or me!

Competition Winner - JB Moments Photography
Yeah, Baby Yeah!

I mean this is supposed to be a Christmas background but with an antique little chair I’d sourced I think it looks pure 60’s.

Competition Winner - JB Moments Photography
Hanging tough!

But of course, Berenice dotes on her baby sister so we had to take a few family pictures including mum and dad and of course the sisters.

Competition Winner - JB Moments Photography

I mean the t-shirt says it all 🙂

Love is in the air (again)

Remember the family celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary at Alexander House? Well, they recommended me to their friends also celebrating a Golden Wedding Anniversary . This time at the newly refurbished Balnakeilly House. Another week, another stunning location, another fantastic family. Have I mentioned recently how much I love my job? 🙂

Lovers of balance and order take note…This married couple have 4 children. Each of their children have 4 children and between them have produced 8 grandsons and 8 granddaughters. Pretty cool, huh?

I was spoilt with options when I arrived with beautiful grounds overlooking the Perthshire countryside and an impressive house facade with steps just begging to be photographed. I did both of course but I just love this one of everybody on the steps.

Family Photographer - JB Moments Photography

My golden couple were total love birds and couldn’t keep their hands off each other.

Family Photographer - JB Moments Photography

When I asked, as I always do what the secret is to 50 years of happy married life they answered without a pause, “Luck and Laughter”.

Here’s to Luck and Laughter!

Golden Wedding Anniversaries & Competition Winners

Family Photography

Family Weekend

I had a brilliant weekend of shoots last weekend. First up on Saturday was a Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration in Perthshire and then on Sunday the first of my two Birthday Competition Winners came into the studio to get their free shoot.

Family is Golden

Jo one of the happy couple’s five children got in touch to see if I’d be willing to go up to Alexander House in Auchterarder to capture the family as part of the celebrations. “There will be 12 adults, 13 children, 1 baby and two dogs, is that okay?”, she said. Hell yeah! I love these kinds of shoots 🙂

I must confess I’d never heard of the place they’d hired for the get together with family coming from as far as Australia for the occasion. A quick google showed just how special Alexander House was. Wow, I couldn’t wait to see it.

Family is formal

Saturday was a beautiful summers day so we were able to take advantage of the lush green garden and rolling Perthshire countryside in the background.

As my fee includes all the edited images from the session I wanted to give this lovely family all the group variations I could think of including each couple with and without their offspring.

Everybody started off in quite formal groupings but as the hour progressed everybody got much more relaxed.

Family Photographer - JB Moments Photography

I absolutely adore this one with all their grandchildren.

Golden advice

I always ask anniversary couples what their secret is to wedded bliss. After all, 50 years happily married is quite an achievement.

Family Photographer - JB Moments Photography

Having fun and listening to each other was the sage advice from this pair of love birds.

Family is fun

I mentioned that we started off formal but we finished anything but! For my last couple of images, I suggested all the guys together and then all the girls.

This is what the boys came up with for their pictures!

Family Photographer - JB Moments Photography

I really enjoyed hanging out with this wonderful family. In case you weren’t aware, I love my job!

I love Lucy

JB Moments Photography turned two in June and I ran a competition for two entrants to win a free photoshoot. When the names were picked from my auto selector I was delighted that the first winner was Lucy and her family.

I first met Lucy around her first birthday when she stole my heart at her cake smash. She has big brown eyes like milk chocolate buttons and is an absolute pleasure to work with.

Her mum entered so they could get some family images as they didn’t really have many of the three of them together. I did that, but I also couldn’t resist getting some more images of Lucy by herself.

Child photographer - JB Moments Photography

She was rocking the toy camera much better than I look with the real thing.

Child photographer - JB Moments Photography

And she was absolutely delighted with her mum’s bubble blowing skills!

Child photographer - JB Moments Photography

Okay, the last one I promise, but she was just an adorable little dot sitting in the big grown-up chair.

I love capturing Family images, big or small. As Michael J. Fox once said,

“Family is not an important thing. It’s everything.”

Studio Session – Baby Kenzie

Baby Photography

It’s a baby girl!

Don’t get me wrong I love all newborns and cuddling with babies is one of the best parts of my job. But I have had a run of baby boys in the studio lately and haven’t been able to use all the cute headbands that I had a bit of a spending spree on after Christmas.

As a result, I was overjoyed when I found out Sunday’s baby was a girl 🙂

Baby Kenzie was just 13 days new when she came into the studio. Surprising her Mum, Dad and big brother Rhys by arriving over a week early!

Oh, Brother!

Rhys was only 3 years old but he was so well behaved. Especially once he spied the lollipop tree in my studio. I always like to start with sibling shots as then if they get bored one of the parents can take them to the park, etc.

Baby Photographer Falkirk - JB Moments Photography

It looks like Kenzie already adores her big brother judging by the way she is looking up at him.

Three-year-olds can be a bit tricky to pose with new babies. They can be unpredictable and have quite a short attention span. Not a good combination when holding a baby! That is why I usually start with them laying on the floor. There is nowhere for the baby to fall!

Rhys was a total champ though so I knew we could try a slightly different pose – with mum and dad poised to catch baby, of course.

Baby Photographer Falkirk - JB Moments Photography

One day Kenzie will be able to look at these precious memories. She will know just how loved she was by her big brother as soon as she entered the world.

Counting Sheep

Content with being swaddled and enjoying the tropical heat I keep the studio at for a newborn session, Kenzie soon drifted off into a nice deep slumber. Allowing me to get my headband and bonnet fix. But my favourite image of her is with my sheep lovies surrounding her.

Baby Photographer Falkirk - JB Moments Photography

Don’t make me angry

Unfortunately for me, the deep sleep came to an abrupt end once we unwrapped her! Don’t get me wrong I plan shots for both awake and asleep babies as you never know how they are going to be on the day.

I couldn’t resist taking this image. She looks so mad at me!

Baby Photographer Falkirk - JB Moments Photography
Wrap me back up now! And whilst you’re at it, bring me another bottle of the house white.

It didn’t stop me from stealing lots of cuddles from her though 🙂

Working with Children and Animals – Studio and Location

Family Photography

“Never work with children or animals” – W.C. Fields

I think Fields advice is probably spot on for actors, tv producers, directors, etc. But as a photographer, they are my favourite subjects to capture. The spontaneity and joy, especially when capturing them together has the makings for beautiful moments.

In the Studio

I am delighted to report that more and more families this year have been bringing their pets to the studio for their family sessions. When Kimberly booked a photo shoot for her partner Darren’s birthday she was keen to include their Cockapoo Lottie as well as their one-year-old son Nathan. Absolutely, I said, the whole family should be included.

JB Moments Photography, Family Photographer, Falkirk

Plans, what plans

My original plan was to give this lovely family lots of different images in their gallery. Dad with Nathan, Mum with Nathan, Nathan with Lottie, Nathan on his own, etc, etc. You get the picture.  Whilst it’s great to have a shoot plan. When working with children or animals you have to be prepared to adapt your plan, or even set fire to it!

Daddy’s Boy

There’s usually a point between around 10 months and 18 months when a happy, bubbly baby becomes a little bit clingy and a little unsettled in new situations for a few months until they find their equilibrium again. Nathan only wanted to be with his daddy and wasn’t happy on his own or with mummy. I’m not in the business of upsetting kids. So we rolled with it.

JB Moments Photography, Family Photographer, Falkirk

And when we added Mum in we kept Nathan on Dads lap.

JB Moments Photography, Family Photographer, Falkirk

Daddy’s Girl

Lottie clearly wanted in on the action and decided that she was happiest on Dad’s lap as well!

JB Moments Photography, Family Photographer, Falkirk

I love this picture though. It’s what family means to these guys and Nathan has got a gorgeous smile going on. I’ll take that as a success any day.

Better yet, mum and dad loved their pictures and that’s the ultimate result I am always aiming for.

On location

Then on Sunday the wonderful team at Blush Boutique in Kincardine asked if I’d help out at their charity fundraiser My Pet and Me. I offered my shooting and editing time for free and they charged people £10 for a 15-minute photo session with their pets. Between that and the other goodies, they had on offer over £350 was raised for Second Chance Kennels and The Edward Foundation. They also collected loads of great donations for the kennels as well.

Under Pressure

Normally for a pet shoot, I have a full hour to get the animal comfortable with the location, the flash and find out what makes them sit and look at me. Now add kids and a cat. I’ve never shot a cat in a location other than their own. GULP! What could possibly go wrong?

Crack for Dogs

Turns out nothing! Nothing went wrong and I had an absolute blast kissing and petting all the pets and high fiving the kids. Thanks to Sam at Dog! playing a huge part by giving all the dogs her amazing Liver Cake that they couldn’t get enough off. The treats I’d bought to tempt them didn’t have a patch on these homemade gourmet delights 🙂

Pet Photographer, Falkirk, JB Moments Photography
Did someone say LIVER CAKE !!!

Pepper the Cat

And the cat? The cat was an absolute rockstar. Once Pepper came out of her basket and had a good look around she struck a pose like a total professional.

Pet Photographer, Falkirk, JB Moments Photography
Those dogs are amateurs.

Dog Days

I saw old dogs and puppies, small dogs, big dogs and mahoosive dogs. There were rescue dogs and bred from Crufts winners dogs. There was even a tripod dog. All in all, I shot 24 dogs, 16 kids and 1 cat. One thing was the same with all of them though…they were all loved by their owners and they were all GORGEOUS. Here are just some of the highlights from a fantastic day.

Studio Session – Large Family Shoot

Family Photography

Super Size Me

Last Saturday my studio had its biggest challenge to date and the Buchanan Family were more than up for the challenge! 6 Adults, 1 teenager, 3 kids and 1 dog (a pointer-lab cross so not exactly small) descended and apart from a rabbit comment faux pas on my part it went really well 🙂

Leaders of the pack

Family photographer near Stirling

These two lovebirds headed up the family as parents to their two sons and grandparents to their four grandsons. They were super cute together. You could also tell they were close to their sons and their families the way they all interacted together.

Firstborn

Family photographer near Stirling

Their eldest son and his family complete with the newest addition, 3-month-old Lomond the dog!

The teenager, who I referred to as ‘the Teenager’ for the whole session was very patient with his younger brother and cousins. He probably would have rather been anywhere but in my studio but he didn’t show it. He also had the most gorgeous dimples every time he smiled. I didn’t point this out on the day for fear of embarrassing him!

His younger brother had the most amazing eyelashes. I was so jealous, they looked like extensions!

Family photographer near Stirling

For a 3-month-old, Lomond was very well behaved. Definitely put Bert and Ernie my two-year-old Frenchies to shame!

The baby

The youngest son and his partner also had two cute sons. I loved their cheeky smiles and banter 🙂

Ready-made friends

A cousin is a ready-made friend for life. These dudes are pretty lucky in that respect. And look, there are those dimples again!

But did they all fit?

I know that’s what you really want to know and the answer is…..YES!

Family photographer near Stirling

I reckon we could have got another couple of adults and kids in as well!

All in all, it was a blast, family sessions like this give me life.

Grow with Me

On Sunday I had baby Hugo back in the studio for the third session in his Grow with Me package. I love seeing how much these littles change in their first year and I think it is a great way for parents to document and remember those changes.

baby photographer near Stirling - JB Moments Photography

His next session will be his first birthday session with a smash of some sort and then his parents will have the hard job of picking which images from each of the four sessions they will put in the A4 Photobook that comes with this package.

This is what I got back from Hugo’s mum when I sent his latest gallery over,

“Awesome pics yet again Jenny!”

That just makes my heart do happy flips!

Studio Session – The Competition Winners!

Child Photography

In December I ran a competition across my Instagram and Facebook pages to win a free photo shoot in my newly expanded studio. All people had to do was like or follow me and say what kind of shoot they wanted.

It’s fair to say I got a lot of entries across both platforms and the shoots people wanted ranged from newborn to family, headshots to pets. I took out all the family members that entered (sorry mum 😉 ) and assigned each entry a number based on when they submitted. Then using a random number generator I found on the internet I picked the entry that corresponded with that number.

It was Jennifer and she wanted some nice photos of her son who was two and his new 4-month-old sister. As well as some pictures of them all as a family. She was delighted when I told her she’d won the prize worth £120 🙂

She ain’t heavy she’s my sister

Family photographer in Stirling - JB Moments Photography

Not only was this two-year-old turning into a very handsome chap indeed. He was also very well behaved – he only needed one bribe for doughnuts. (to be fair I would do anything for doughnuts as well, just saying). Despite making sure mum and dad were close by, just out of camera, he was very careful with his baby sister.

As for the baby sister…Look at that hair, those eyes, that dimple!! As you can tell I was totally smitten. She was such a good-natured little girl as well. No tears or tantrums here!

I’ll look out for you

This big brother loves his little sister. I think as she gets older she is going to have him wrapped around her cute little fingers.

The best gift our parents gave us was each other.

Sometimes you gotta race cars

Family photographer in Stirling - JB Moments Photography

With up to an hour in the studio, you get to mess around with different backdrops and props. It’s important to get shots of each child individually as well and find ways to let their personality shine through. My little red racing car was just the thing for this young man ( I think dad was secretly a little jealous).

Time for my close up

Family photographer in Stirling - JB Moments Photography

Meanwhile, this little cutie was perfectly content to sit in the chair and pout and pose for us.

All too soon the session was over and it was time for me to pack the toys away and start acting like an adult again (booo).

The family went off for doughnuts (not at all jealous!) and I couldn’t wait to get started on editing and delivering back their digital gallery.

The sprinkles on the doughnut

Sorry, but that’s all I can think about now…..

The best bit was getting such a lovely review back from my winners.

Fab photos done with our little ones! Jenny was great and made us all feel comfortable so she got the best pics possible of the kids! Will definitely be back for more photos in the future!
