A Tinder Match, a Rock Bar, and One Very Memorable First Date

I’m always a bit nervous when I’m recommended to a couple — you never quite know if you’ll be their style of photographer. But the second I met Brooklyn and she showed me the dress (oh, we’re getting to that), I knew this one was going to be a belter.

Who says Tinder is just for hookups? Six years ago, Brooklyn and Allister both swiped right, headed out on a date to Glasgow’s Solid Rock… and had such a good time that Brooklyn ended the night promptly by throwing up right in front of him. She assumed that was that.

But Allister clearly saw something special — because a second date happened, then moving in together, then becoming devoted pet parents, and then finally the hints about marriage. Very big, very obvious hints. Allister eventually took the hint, gifting her an engagement ring on her birthday.

The Tall Ship at the Transport Museum – A Venue With Serious Atmosphere

Their wedding venue was just as cool as they are: The Tall Ship at the Riverside Museum. The contrast of the historic ship against the modern glass-fronted museum was incredible — especially with the reflections bouncing off the hull.

The ceremony took place in the… basement? Bowels? (Forgive me, ship terminology is not my superpower.) It was dark, intimate and lit solely by candlelight — gorgeous, atmospheric, and an absolute nightmare for a photographer who avoids flash during the ceremony. After a quick word with the celebrant to make sure she was happy, I was good to go.

Allister was unbelievably laid back and rocked up about 5–10 minutes before the ceremony. Just enough time for a couple of photos before the bride made her entrance in a beautiful vintage roller.

THAT Dress (and the Collective Gasp)

Brooklyn’s mum helped her out of the car and the moment she stepped out… wow. A black lace and shimmering bodice overlaying a lighter skirt. Dramatic. Elegant. Utterly breathtaking.

As Brooklyn walked into the ceremony space, you could hear the gasps ripple around the room. Allister was completely floored — so much so that the first thing that came out of his mouth was:

“Errr… that’s a lot of fabric.”

Bless him.

A Ceremony Full of Personality

Their celebrant-led ceremony was packed with laughs and emotion. Highlights included:

  • A prosecco-filled quaich (yes, please)

  • Both mums getting involved

  • A handfasting beautifully assisted by Allister’s niece

It was heartfelt, funny and uniquely them.

Top Deck Time, Confetti & Moody November Skies

After the “I dos”, everyone headed to the top deck (I think? The top bit!). At the start of November you never truly know what Scotland is going to throw at you, so I said a tiny prayer to the weather gods. They must have listened — we got dry skies and a moody Glasgow skyline that suited the ship perfectly.

Re-creating Titanic and Other Tall Ship Shenanigans

There’s simply no universe where I’m on a ship with a bride in a spectacular dress and don’t recreate the Titanic pose. Not on my watch. Brooklyn bravely climbed the ladder with her dignity mostly intact, and the photos were worth every wobble.

We also grabbed more portraits with the gorgeous car, the bridal party, and the stunning reflective glass of the museum.

Inside the Transport Museum, the couple had a few must-have shots: an old horse and carriage (yes!) and then — because I spotted it and couldn’t resist — a vintage bus. Why? Because it was fabulous.

Then it was back to the ship before we lost the light completely.

Pirates, Rock Ballads and a Cracking First Dance

Dinner came with full pirate-themed activities for the kids… and, amusingly, the groom. His mother-in-law simply couldn’t resist joining in.

Later, the rock band Slam Dunk kicked off the evening, and Brooklyn and Allister took to the floor for their first dance — a rock ballad, naturally.

Final Reflections

Driving home, I kept thinking that if weddings had “vibes”, this one was pure rock-and-roll romance. A little chaotic, a lot heartfelt, wildly fun, and entirely their own. Honestly? My kind of day.
